Postprocessing

Postprocessing includes optional price adjustments based on dual variables to enhance realism while maintaining consistency with dispatch results. By default it is switched off in the project configuration. This process involves the following calculations:

  • Polishing prices that reach slack costs by reducing them to the highest-cost unit within the price zone
  • Markups of bids based on start-up cost for completed starts of thermal power plants
  • Markdowns of bids based on avoided starts of thermal power plants
  • Market coupling recalculation (price zones) based on spot market bids, imports, and exports

The resulting spot price time series can be found in price_spot.csv. All other outputs like techno-economic assessments and welfare analysis are based on this preprocessed spot price time series. Plant-related economical assessments are written out in assessment_thermal_power_plants.csv and assessment_hydro_power_plants.csv. Grid capacity assessments for CNEC, CNTC and NTC can be found in assessment_grid_capacities.csv. Flexible demand assessments for shift, increase and decrease components are written out in assessment_demand_side_response.csv. Overall social welfare components are written out in social_welfare_total.csv.
